Rand and ATMs

You will need to use Rand or credit cards (VISA, Amex, etc.) while you're
there. US $ or other currency will do you no good for most things. Most
people are able to use SA ATMs with their debit cards, however, I had a
big problem with my ATM card when I was there. There were only 2 banks
whose ATM machines I could use successfully. The other people I was with
had no problem at any of them though. I used NedBank ATMs while I was
there.

Do not bother to exchange any currency before you get there. The rates are
nowhere near as favorable here as over there. At the airport (JNB) you will
find many currency exchange booths and ATMs. The exchange rate is roughly
4.93 Rand to the US dollar, so divide prices by 5 to come up with the cost
of things in US $.

That's good news! Will Rand be ok, or should be plan to bring some US
Cash as well? I assume South African ABMs take Visa and such?
