IRELAND IN HIGH GEAR:
Round-Trip Air, a Week's Car Rental, and
Lodgings--Starting at $708/Person in May!

'Tis the season for well-priced Europe packages to begin appearing. Over
the past couple of weeks, we've mentioned several in this Daily News
Magazine to France and Portugal, as well as other continental nations.
Now
we've gotten wind of a serious bargain for those who want to brave
right-side driving and spend a week in Ireland. From mid-May, Sceptre
Tours is offering packages to Shannon from New York, Boston, and
Chicago for prices as low as $708/person, based on double occupancy.
For that price, you get round-trip airfare, a seven-day car rental with
unlimited mileage, and six nights' accommodation in your choices among
over 1,000 bed-and-breakfasts. (The breakfast is also included,
naturally.)

The price quoted is out of New York in mid- to late May, the Emerald
Isle's shoulder season. It climbs as Ireland heads toward the peak of
high
season in mid-July; however, even then the cost is a highly reasonable
$888. (June prices out of all gateways are roughly halfway between the
May and July prices.) After mid-August, the cost drops again.

Out of Boston the shoulder season (mid-May) price is $842, the high
season (mid-July) price $1,006. From Chicago, the respective prices are
$1,005 and $1,070.

Bed-and-breakfast accommodations are transacted on a voucher basis;
your first night is prebooked at a B&B near Shannon Airport, but from
there you'll reserve your own lodgings, generally by calling a day ahead.
The rental cars are standard transmission--meaning a stick shift, though
automatics can generally be arranged for an extra charge. Prices may
fluctuate slightly depending on the week of departure, due to air
availability.

Cheers!
